Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart

The star has revealed that she no longer feels appropriate to voice opinions against the Trump presidency, concerned it could exacerbate polarizing arguments and increase separation throughout the country.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence

During a discussion, she shared, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was moving hastily without clear direction. But it’s become clear, election after election, public figures fail to influence at all on voter decisions.”

Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

The actress has admitted freely about backing conservative and liberal presidential nominees throughout her life. Growing up with conservative Republicans in her home state, she voted for John McCain in 2008 before joining the Democratic party and explaining she understood during Obama’s administration that backing conservatives was undermining her own rights as a female citizen.

Previous Comments

Earlier in her career, she commented that Donald Trump’s election might signal “the end of the world” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “because I believe she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to defend women’s health rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

Jennifer Lawrence was aligned with numerous celebrities in her rejection of Trump as a returning figure, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the public choices was emphasized by his election win.

“Another four years feels different,” noted the actress about his administration. “As he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”

New Release

Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she plays a new mother who struggles with her mental health in rural Montana. During a press conference for the movie in Venice, Lawrence commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”

Additional Thoughts

She continued by expressing that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the conversations of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be commonplace to the kids now. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”

Lawrence aimed to shift outrage about the conflict to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she remarked, which was interpreted as a allusion to the then-recent pledge supported by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.

Relatable Experiences

Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim early in her career for her role in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her portrayal in the new film. Even though Ramsay has disputed the narrative being interpreted as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, Lawrence revealed that she did relate to elements of her character’s journey after the birth of her second son, shortly after filming concluded.

“It was fear regarding my baby,” she said, “just picturing every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a medication called Zurzuvae and I took it for a short period and it really helped.”

Film Challenges

Lawrence also spoke of the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the movie while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.

“It feels nice,” she remarked, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
