Miami put up eighty-six opening half scores against the Memphis Grizzlies

The Heat secured a decisive 146-114 win against the Grizzlies in their first NBA match after guard Terry Rozier was arrested for alleged illegal gambling.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was also detained as part of a sweeping FBI probe into illegal gambling. Both men contest the allegations.

However, the Heat were not distracted as they recorded eighty-six first-half scores to be ahead of Memphis by 39 after two quarters, the largest halftime lead in the team's 37 year history.

Bam Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and later stated Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We support him. Complete backing," Bam said. "You support him through and through. That's our brother ultimately."

Heat coach Spoelstra commented: "Rozier is somebody who is important to everyone. He has made a beneficial influence on our locker room.

"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he goes through the situation."

The Trail Blazers additionally won their first game since the detentions, with Brazil-born Tiago Splitter taking over as interim coach in Billups' absence and leading the team to a decisive 139-119 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Billups and how he coached," Splitter said. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but we have a job to do."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Disturbed' over Recent Events

Speaking about the arrests for the first time, league head Adam Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the recent days.

"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and its fans than the integrity of the competition," he informed a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner also mentioned an league probe into the player's actions in March 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a match he played for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"We were informed by the authorities and the betting companies," he added.

"We then looked into that situation and were open about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, found no evidence.

"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA is unable to.

"So, we've been working with them from that point. And, of course, what they announced yesterday was an charge.

"Moreover two and a half years later, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in fairness to Rozier.

"Clearly, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance in this case between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
