Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Abusive Songs About Coach Wilder

The striker has joined the Championship side only seven months following leading disrespectful taunts targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a contract with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His seven-year career at Elland Road was ended amicably this past summer.

Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting insulting chants regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion party this spring. Now, the one-cap England player will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull the team he loves out of the bottom places.

Past History Involving Bamford and Wilder

The pair had a past prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

All seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford looking to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that is an integral part of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Pat.”
