The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
